Additionally, students may explore external scholarship opportunities outside of UTHealth Houston. These scholarships are offered by various organizations, institutions, and foundations and may have different eligibility criteria and application processes. The Office of Student Financial Services offers a Financial Aid Resource Page providing students with these additional types of opportunities. This page is offered as a resource tool only and does not guarantee scholarship awards.

Please refer to the UTHealth Houston Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOOP) Policy 56, Student Financial Aid for guidance.

Competitive Scholarships

Competitive Academic Scholarship awards are intended to foster the academic growth of high-achieving students. These awards provide two main benefits: a direct financial award and, for non-Texas residents, a possible waiver in tuition status to resident tuition for the academic year in which the award was received. The academic award must total at least $1,000 to qualify for a tuition waiver and students must compete with other students, including Texas residents, with the scholarship awarded through a school and/or university designated scholarship committee.

For further details regarding competitive scholarships, as well as eligibility criteria and procedures for scholarship waivers, please contact your school’s academic or student affairs office directly.
