PED 3001  Pediatrics
Pediatrics is an eight week rotation, with four weeks spent on the inpatient unit at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital or Memorial Hermann Hospital Sugarland and four weeks spent at one of several outpatient pediatric clinics scattered around Houston. Students will be exposed to the care of newborn infants, children with acute and chronic medical conditions, and well children coming in for their regular checkups. A major focus of the clerkship is injury and illness prevention. Students will become familiar with congenital and acquired conditions, as well as normal and abnormal patterns of development. PED 4000  Required Ambulatory PED
The required fourth year ambulatory rotation is an outpatient clinic based selective, allowing students to choose a particular area of focus consistent with their career trajectory. Students will care for patients coming in for preventative health checkups, as well as those with minor acute illnesses. Students also revisit the principles of evidence based medicine, and complete a critical review of the literature for a clinical question of their choosing. Fail Thru Honors(MED)
