The challenges of managing healthcare entities demand leaders prepared in the business as well as the science of medicine. McGovern Medical School offers pathways leading to a dual MD/MBA (Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration) degree. The requirements established for the program meet the general requirements of both degrees.

One pathway is in conjunction with the College of Business at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. This curriculum is offered in both a four-year (total MD & MBA) option and a five-year option. A second pathway is offered in conjunction with the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. This latter program is available as a five-year option and follows an Executive MBA format such that students can simultaneously pursue independent projects outside the standard medical school curriculum during their MBA year.

Students must meet the admission requirements of both the medical school and the business school to qualify for the MD/MBA program. Enrollment in the MBA program is accomplished after acceptance to McGovern Medical School.
